Missions

The word 'Missions' can creates some pretty powerful images for people. Images like living and working in the far, isolated reaches of the world. While it is true that Pacific Church is a part of a network of people who live out their faith throughout the world, we also strongly believe that each of us, as a follower of Jesus, is called to missions. Our personal mission is being the person God calls us to be in whatever place we do life.

Streetlight

**NEXT TRAINING SESSION: Friday, February 3, 2012, 6 pm at Union Gospel Mission. You need to attend training if you'd like to participate!

Pacific partners with the Union Gospel Mission in an evening ministry in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver on the first and third Tuesdays each month. Volunteers meet at 6:30 pm sharp behind the Union Gospel Mission building on 616 East Cordova Street.

Streetlight is a chance to live out God's love by caring for some of the most at-risk people in our city through intentionally taking time out to listen and interact. We also offer a hot drink and, during the winter, we distribute small goods to help with the cold. Please donate hats, gloves, scarves and/or socks for men and women aged roughly 13 to adult. Donations can be left in the bin by the Intersection Table on Sunday mornings.

At Pacific Church we believe that God calls us to live 'on mission' right here and right now in our city and in our day to day lives. While we recognize that there is huge need in many parts of the world, we also try hard not to overlook those in need closer to home as well. Please pray about committing to serve the poor, at-risk, and disadvantaged in Vancouver. While all Streetlight volunteers are required to undergo an initial orientation and training session, you can come along as a 'guest' on one evening to experience the ministry before registering for training (happens a couple times a year).

We are always interested in exploring partnerships and opportunities to serve in our community. If you have a passion and a vision for serving locally in a different area and would like to collaborate with us or coordinate a ministry, we are more than happy to discuss that opportunity.

Jaye Wald is Pacific's Streetlight Coordinator; contact us for more information.

Poverty Revolution Boot Camp

There are over 300 Bible verses that refer to the poor, social justice and God’s heart for the vulnerable, but many of us struggle with our own understanding of what poverty is, its root causes, and more importantly what we can really do about it.

We can’t deny the existence of poverty. We can see it in our own communities and in images streamed in from around the world. Jesus said, “The poor you will always have with you.”

So we wonder, “What can we do?”

A Poverty Revolution Boot Camp provides:

  • an interactive learning environment
  • a better understanding of the origins of poverty
  • an understanding of God’s heart for the vulnerable
  • a realization that God has a recommended solution to poverty
  • an opportunity to develop a healthy personal response to issues of poverty

Afghanistan

We met Paul Fieber as he was living out his faith in Vancouver, working for a local software development company. At the end of February 2008, Paul returned to Kabul, Afghanistan where he has been helping build the country's infrustructure.

Please check Paul's bio regularly for updates and specific ways we can pray for Paul. As he travels to and settles in Kabul please pray for his daily safety and that he would develop supportive network of friends.
